Our  values

F.E.T.E (Festivals Éducatifs à Ton École)  stands for  respect  for all cultures and people.   F.E.T.E values diversity and  aims to foster intercultural understanding and global citizenship.

Our  mission

Our mission is  to help kids learn a second language and deepen intercultural understanding while  having fun!

Our mini-lessons are designed to help students learn similarities and differences between French cultural celebrations and their own traditions. By  learning about French-speaking communities and celebrations in Ontario, in Canada, and around the world, we seek to broaden students' perspectives of the diverse factors that influenced  the  history of Canada  and today's socio-cultural landscape.

Integrated Character Education

F.E.T.E integrates  character education into each festival lesson by asking students to brainstorm virtues related to the theme and lesson at hand. Students consider the virtues, choose one that speaks to them, and write it on the back of their zipper-pull craft so as not to forget!

Pedagogy

The F.E.T.E program  is aligned with the new  Ontario Ministry of Education FSL curriculum    which  emphasizes the importance of various pedagogical  considerations, including:

- the integration and interdependence of culture in second language learning

-the improved effectiveness and engagement when learning is designed around authentic, action-oriented tasks

-the use of well-scaffolded, modelled language and integrated language conventions

The F.E.T.E program  is designed by an  Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT)  with FSL Specialist  qualifications,  who has taught both  Extended and Core French, and who is a member of the Ontario Modern Language Teacher's Association (OMLTA).

A Festival at Your School  =  $10 donation

.
For each day that F.E.T.E runs a festival at a school, we give $10  to   support education,  reconciliation  and leadership  development  in Canada.   After much consideration of  various  organizations doing valuable work in these areas,  F.E.T.E has decided to give to  Canadian Roots  (canadianroots.ca).  CR organizes events, exchanges, and conferences to help foster "a Canada where youth stand in solidarity to promote respect, understanding, and reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples."

Only the best products

F.E.T.E  chooses only the best products for  our activities.  We  take care in sourcing our face paints and choose products that are  non-toxic ,  paraben-free, vegan, and made in Canada.

The cookies we decorate are made in Canada, and are  nut, gluten, and dairy  free!  We make sure to bring our  egg-free cookies when teachers inform us about such allergies or choices.

Our  laser-cut  wood festival shapes for our crafts are  custom made in Canada, by M.Perrier who has been running his small family business in Timmins, Ontario for more than 30 years.
